CEBU, Philippines - Jason Canoy easily made the weight for his World Boxing Federation bantamweight title challenge against Mzuvukile Magwaca today in Cape Town, South Africa.

Canoy, who holds a 26-6-2 record spiked with 19KOs, is fighting for his first world title. He tipped the scales at 116 pounds while the hometown fighter was at 116.5 pounds. Both are under the bantamweight limit of 118 pounds.

The Omega boxer, who has lost only twice in 12 fights in the past three years, said he was excited for his challenge and is eager to take on the hometown fighter, who boasts a 17-0-2 record with 10KOs.

"I'm grateful for this opportunity and will go all out for a win. I assure fans of a good fight," he said.

Canoy is fighting for the first time abroad since losing to Oleksandr Hryshchuck for the WBA Intercontinental flyweight title in Donetsk, Ukraine on Aug. 24, 2013.

On the other hand, Magwaca, who is undefeated in 19 fights but hasn't fought since beating Raul Medina last Nov. 28, 2015, said he's ready for the Filipino fighter.

"I was born ready," he said. (FREEMAN)
