CEBU, Philippines – A record field of 178 entries will see action as the opening leg of the 10th Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Championships, which will kick off this morning at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City. The other elimination games though will also be played at Pardo Tennis Courts and at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

“This year, being the 10th year anniversary, it is a celebration. Each leg is very festive,” said event organizer Mario Craiz in a press conference yesterday at the CitiGreen.

A total of 51 legs will commemorate the tournament's 10th year anniversary.

Through the years, the event has contributed to the development of a bunch of top players in the country today including Davis Cupper Francis Casey “Nino” Alcantara, world tennis junior no.12 Alberto Lim Jr, 2015 SEA Games medallist Jeson Patrombon, Oklahoma University tennis scholar Jurence Mendoza, top female player Marian Capadocia, Khim Iglopas, the Patrimonio sisters Clarice and Christine and Roxanne Resma, who is now with the University of Hawaii.

Here in Cebu, among the junior players who have benefited from this age-group tilt include Jan Godfrey Seno, Marc Suson, Francis Hidalgo, and Shyne Villareal among others.

The organizers are looking forward to produce more talents that will represent the country in future international competitions.  (FREEMAN)
