Cebu leg of Peugeot Phl Tennis Open set today

CEBU, Philippines – The biggest tennis event to hit Cebu in this year unfolds today with the staging of the Cebu leg of the Peugeot Philippine Tennis Open at the Cebu Country Club.

Close to a hundred tennis players all over the country led by the multi-titled Cebuano Johnny Arcilla vies for the crown.

Arcilla opted to play in Cebu after ending his last season with a victory here via the Dagitab Festival Open in the city of Naga last month.

This time, Arcilla still has to make extra effort to win the battle as 63 others are aiming to win the men's open crown.

Considered to be Arcilla’s toughest opponent to beat will be Nino Alcantara. Aside from the Alcantara, other top players seeing action include Roel Capangpangan, Calvin and Claudio Canlas, Iligan's Rey Antony Laplap and Zamboanga's Jose Maria Pague.

Other netters who will represent Cebu will be Noynoy Seno and RJ Abarquez.

Leading the contenders in the women’s side are Hannah Espinosa, Jana Pages, Zethley Mae Aleferez,Keisha Jabinez, Shyne Villareal, Elixabeth Abarquez, Ericka Manduriao and Maria Dominique Ong.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
