CEBU, Philippines – Some of the country's airline pilots are out to showcase their hoop skills via the 1st Asian Pilots Invitational Basketball Tournament set to kick off on January 14 at the Treston International College in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Spearheaded by the Airlines Pilots Association-Singapore (ALPA-S), the three-day tilt will be supervised by league commissioner Ed Cordero assisted by basketball legend Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez, the tournament director.
The participating teams are ALPA-S, Cebu Pac, Thai-PA, Philippine Airlines and Air Asia.
They will play in a single round robin format, with the top two teams slugging it out outright for the championship.
There will be a three-point shootout before the final match on January 16.
“It is our intention that we could continue this tournament through the years for future generations of pilots. We feel it is a brilliant way to foster and establish friendship and camaraderie amongst pilots from around the region.” said Capt. Julio “Yeng” P.
