CEBU, Philippines - The Asia-Pacific University Games (APUG) jointly organized by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) and the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) will formally kick off today at the Cebu Coliseum.
Led by host Philippines, the other nations seeing action in the three-day tilt are Japan, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea. They will play in basketball, table tennis and badminton.
Basketball will be played at the Cebu Coliseum, University of San Carlos-Main gym and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation gym in Lahug.
Japan is participating only in basketball where it will be tested by the reigning CESAFI champions USC Warriors, the USPF Panthers and the University of Cebu Webmasters.
Table tennis will be played at the Social Hall of Cebu Provincial Capitol, while badminton will be at MetroSports.
Malaysia, a powerhouse in badminton and table tennis, will be competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles against the host teams. UC's table paddlers under coach Jessica Honoridez are surely no pushover in this event.
The APUG is also being held in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). (FREEMAN)
