Consolacion fiesta caging kicks off this pm
CEBU, Philippines - Hundreds of young aspiring cagers will converge today at the Poblacion Occidental barangay gym in Consolacion, Cebu as the 5th Mayor Teresa P. Alegado Cup Fiesta Basketball League formally comes off the wraps.Before the hardcourt hostilities, a colorful opening ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. to be graced by no less than Mayor Nene Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole and the rest of the Sangguniang Bayan members.
Aside from the selection of best muse and best in team uniform, the other highlight of the kick-off bash is the cheerdance competition.
All 21 barangays of the host municipality will take part in the month-long tournament. The categories to be contested are the inter-barangay seniors A and B, and SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) juniors A and B.
The participants in the inter-barangay seniors A and SK juniors A are Poblacion Oriental, Poblacion Occidental, Pulpugan, Danlag, Cabangahan, Nangka, Tugbungan, Jugan, Tayud, Pitogo, Lamac, Cansaga, and Casili.
They will be divided into two brackets that will play in a double round elimination format. The top two teams will advance into the crossover semifinals, with the top seeds enjoying twice-to-beat incentives. The winners will then clash for the championship in a best-of-three series.
The contenders in the inter-barangay seniors B and SK juniors B are Tolotolo, Garing, Polog, Panas, Panoypoy, Lanipga, Sacsac, and Tilhaong. They will play in a double elimination format during the classification stage.
The sporting event is co-chaired by municipal councilors Nilo Ferraren and Boy Tibon and ABC President Marilou Casul. The games will be supervised by league commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former star of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws during his UAAP days, assisted by technical committee head Aurelio Eslawan.— EBV (FREEMAN)
