Two more erring cagers to do community service

CEBU, Philippines - After Janwein Wisdom Ceniza of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers, two more erring basketball players of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. are bound to do a community service.

Kent Moral and Ferdinand Risma of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars will be compelled to render such community outreach after being thrown out of the game during their 75-90 loss to the University of San Carlos Warriors last Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Moral and Risma were both ejected for coming off the bench and entering the court during a near free-for-all stemming from a mad scramble for the loose ball.

Aside from the automatic one-game suspension and P5,000 fine, Moral and Risma will have to undergo a four-hour community service under the supervision of the Cebu City Sports Commission.

"We will have a one-on-one briefing with the new guys just like what we did with Ceniza. We will also give them grassroots videos to watch so they will be immersed in the culture of volunteerism we are advocating," said CSCC chairman Edward Hayco.

Two weeks ago, Ceniza held a basketbal clinic to students of Lahug Elementary School as part of his penalty after being thrown out for commiting two consecutive unsportsmanlike fouls against USC's Giovanni Laguyo and Shooster Olago.

While doing a community service, Hayco had earlier said that the athletes should view it as a humbling experience rather than a punishment.— EBV (FREEMAN)
