Central Visayas leg of Shakey's GVL tiff unfurls this pm

CEBU, Philippines - The Central Visayas leg of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball League Season 13 will kick off this afternoon at the Cebu City Sports Institute gym in Barangay San Nicholas, Cebu City.

A total of 10 teams led by defending champion University of San Carlos and runner-up University of San Jose-Recoletos will slug it out for  this year's crown.

The other contenders are Southwestern University, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Sacred Heart School Hijas de Jesus, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, University of Cebu, St. Theresa's College, Southcrest School and Don Gerardo Ouano Memorial National High School, the lone public school entry.

The participants will be divided into two brackets of five teams each. They will play under a single round robin format in the elimination round, with the top two qualifiers per group advancing into the crossover semifinals. The winners will then clash for the title and the right to represent the region in the Shakey's GVL League of Champions this November in Biñan, Laguna. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
