CEBU, Philippines- Petron Golberry and Dynamic Power kept their unbeaten records intact, while Bayfront Hotel Cebu and RDAK Stallions decimated separate in the continuing action of the 20th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Cup last Sunday at the Lux Oriens gym of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Petron Goldberry, the defending champion in Division A, pulled off a close 53-49 decision over the gritty Gaisano Capital for its third straight victory in as many starts.
Leigh Dixon charted 18 points and Justin Huang added 11 markers as Goldberry overcame a spirited endgame attack by Gaisano Capital to eke out a four-point win.
Jerry Seno finished with 14 points and Alfonso Doyon scored 10 for Gaisano Capital, which fell to 1-1.
In other Division A games, team owner Chase Cokaliong, Elddie Cabahug, and Anthony Ong each netted 10 points as Bayfront Hotel slammed Filmon Prince Medallion, 79-36, to check its two-game skid, while the RDAK Stallions relied on a well-balanced offensive to trounce Chick@phil Basic, 70-42, and better its win-loss record to 2-1.
Under the behest of playing coach Elmer Cabahug, Bayfront Hotel pounded Filmon on all range. From an 18-6 start, Bayfront grew even hotter as the game progressed on the way to mount an eye-popping 40-point advantage, 63-23, heading into the final period.
Likewise, the RDAK Stallions decisively beat Chick@phil, knocking down their foes as early as in the first quarter with a punishing 29-5 blow. They never looked back from thereon to come up with a 28-point blowout.
Dan Tecson finished with 13 points for Chick@phil, which languished at the cellar after dropping three consecutive games.
In Division B, Dynamic Power outclassed reigning titlist RDAK Transporters, 61-50, for a resounding 2-0 start.
Roderick Mangubat pumped in 20 points, while former MVP Theogene Lim chipped in 13 points for Dynamic Power, which used a searing 21-8 run in the windup to stun the Transporters at the final buzzer.
John Paul Cabrera was the lone double-digit scored with 10 as the Transporters saw their two-game winning streak come to a halt.
In the other match, AutoLAB escaped with a 50-48 victory over the White Gold Club. AutoLAB now holds a 2 win-1 loss card, while White Gold slumped to its second straight loss.— EBV (FREEMAN)
