Converters log third straight win in CSCC E-League

CEBU, Philippines – The Convergys Converters rode on a sizzling third-quarter assault to outlast the SSI Warriors, 49-43, and firm up its grip of the Elite Classic lead with a 3-0 slate in the 11th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament over the weekend at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Lourenz Limpangog cashed in 16 points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while Sherwin Resilla added 12 points laced with seven rebounds and four blocks for the Converters, who trailed by a hairline at halftime, 18-19.

The Converters, however, staged a blistering 20-9 attack in the third canto to take full command of the match the rest of the way.

Lawrence Daven Agas was the lone double-digit scorer for SSI with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals, but his efforts went for naught as they suffered the second loss in three starts.

In the other Elite Classic duel, the Teleperformance All-Stars chalked up their first win of the season at the expense of the Wipro Tigers, 72-61. They never looked back after jumping off to a hot 21-12 start.

Ryan Veloso and Marcos Genteli Jungoy III each scored 11 for Teleperformance, which now holds a 1-1 record in a tie with its victim. Franz Martinez paced Wipro with 16 points and eight rebounds followed by Reinario Salibay, Jr. and  Daryll Ouano Teves with 12 and 11 markers, respectively.

In the Evo League, Junrey Cabarrubias had 16 points as the Kyocera Frontiers blasted the 1&1 Marauders, 63-42, to improved their record to 2-1, while Ralph Belarmino sparkled with 23 points on top of 14 rebounds as the 24/7 Cagers opened their campaign with a 61-51 drubbing of the Calltek Trojans.
