SHS-Ateneo wins girls under-18 title
CEBU, Philippines - Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu lady booters pulled off a 5-2 victory via penalty shootout over St. Theresa’s College to bag the girls under-18 crown in the 17th Aboitiz Football Cup at their own turf in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Weeks after grabbing the girls 16 title, SHS-AdC once again break the heart of the Theresians.
The game was tied 1-all after Itsuko Bacatan scored a goal for SHS-AdC. Tara Musni of STC was able to score the first goal, before Bacatan knotted the game.
During the shootout, Alyssa Monteclaro was the only one who delivered for STC, while the more determined SHS-AdC booters sinked four goals courtesy of Mikaela Shan, Priscilla Acisar, Alliza Ugarte and Maegan Are Dela Cruz.
Meanwhile, ERCO scored a 5-2 victory against San Roque Football Club to snare the third place trophy.
In the battle for the boys 13 championship, Warshocks beat Dynamo FC, 1-0.
A free kick at 16 yards from the goal made by Bernie Cimafranca on the 36th minute paved the way for Warshocks’ victory.
Cimafranca's gallant move also got him the Most Valuable Player award as Adonis Mapula was named the Best Goal Keeper. Hiro Iwanaga named as best midfielder and Niel Limoran as best defender while Dynamo's Louie Areglo bagged the best striker award.
SHS-AdC grabbed part of the limelight after taking away the third place honor over the gutsy Consolacion FC, 1-0.
