CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu running community and other magnanimous-hearted individuals will have another chance to help some poor families in Mindanao through the Builders’ Run 2 on May 31 at Parkmall grounds in Mandaue City.
This as proceeds of the charity race will be utilized to build houses under Gawad Kalinga Village in Kinuguitan, Misamis Oriental, some 80 kilometers away from Cagayan de Oro City.
Cebu Home and Builders Centre, the event's presentor and organizer, has chosen the said area among all other Gawad Kalinga villages as the place close to the hearts of the family of CHBC's Chief Operating Officer James Co.
So far, 13 houses have already been built at the Gawad Kalinga in Kinuguitan, three of which courtesy of the proceeds of the inaugural Builders’ Run last year.
"The runners has an ownership for the betterment of lives of our beneficiaries," said Co.
Seeing the positive response of the Cebuano runners and the happiness it brought to the poor families in Kinuguitan, James Co and his wife Jewel have decided to organize another race.
They set it for May 31 as a kick-off leg for Cebu Home and Builders Centre's 13th anniversary celebration.
The race distances include the 3K, 5K, 10K and 16K.There will be a separate category for the employees of CHBC.
Registration fee is pegged at P350 for the 3K and 5K, P550 for the 10K, and P650 for the 16K inclusive of singlets and post-race refreshments. The 200 finishers in the 10K and the first 300 in the 16K will receive medals.
The organizers assured everyone of another fun-filled event, especially that the runners will be treated to a barbeque party plus a chance to get some useful giveaways from sponsors after the race.
The top three runners in the 5K, the top five in the 10K and the top 10 in the 16K will receive cash prizes and gift certificates.
James and Jewel Co, being runners themselves, understand the demands and needs of the participants that they want to provide the best they could along with the technical support of the Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE).
