Don Bosco retains under-7 crown in Aboitiz football

CEBU, Philippines – Don Bosco Technology Center retained the boys under-7 title with a 1-0 victory over Consolacio FC yesterday in the 17th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu football field in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Gabriel Tabar led DBTC's charge paving way for him being hailed as the Most Valuable Player and Best Striker. His teammates, Vough Zapanta was named Best Midfielder as Maxim Santiago was the Best Defender. Elmer Aumentado of Consolacion grabbed the Best Goalkeeper award.

DBTC also snared the third place trophy in the under-7 with its Team C winning over MAD FC, 4-1.

But while the Bosconians had all the luck on their side in the under-7, they were not that lucky in the under-9 division with two of its teams losing their respective semifinal matches.

DBTC-B bowed to Consolacion FC, 0-1 while DBC-A lost to Dynamo FC, 1-2. Don Bosco-Savio, on the other hand, advances to the final round after outsmarting Lahug FC, 2-0 via penalty shootout after being tied at the end of the regulation period at 1-all.

The other match saw Suba-Basbas winning against CIS, 2-1.

In the boys under-15 bracket, Abellana National School-Pomeroy scored a 4-0 triumph over Cebu Dynamo while Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu dumped Springdale 6-0.

Over at the Cebu City Sports Center, ERCO-BRO-Gau grabbed a 2-0 win against Don Bosco United FC while UC-ERCO BRO outlasted Warshockz, 2-1. (FREEMAN)
