CEBU, Philippines – Eight Cebuano players and six officials are leaving for the United Staes today for the 5th Doce Pares World Championships. The team is headed by Engr. Michael Cañete, who is also the President of WEKAF (World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation ) Philippines, and Executive Director Gerald Cañete, who announced the names of the players.
They are Harry Talledo, Gerardo Rusiana, Joseph Burt Cañete, Jonas Pableo, Thadd Kholenn Cañete, Mario Palazuelo, Christian Michael Cañete and 12-year-old Joshua Miguel Cañete, who is entered in the boys category.
Travelling with the group are Grandmasters Andres “Kano” Cañete and Felix “Tenciong” Gutang, who are invited as guests, and likewise are scheduled to conduct a seminar-workshop on the last day of the four-day world event.
Supreme Grandmaster Dionisio Cañete, President of Doce Pares, is also travelling with the group together with Roberto Cavan, the Chairman of International Membership and Affiliation of the world-renowned organization.
The championship, which will be held at the Jose Marti Academy Gym in Union City, New Jersey, is expected to be attended by more than 20 countries including United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Hungary, Italy and Mexico among others. The event is organized and hosted by US Doce Pares headed by former Cebu resident Grandmaster Arnulfo “Dong” Cuesta. (PR)
