CEBU, Philippines – Bohol Top Team’s Dodong ‘Tiger’ Jagape scored a scintillating second round stoppage over Dan ‘Dagmals’ Cotejo of Team Bagwis in the kickboxing main event of “Bakbakan sa Sugbo” at the Cebu Sports Institute yesterday.
It was a highly entertaining brawl between the two fighters but it was the 39-year-old veteran Jagape who gained the upper hand as he connected more power punches that inflicted damage to Cotejo who was unable to continue before the start of the second round.
Cotejo’s teammate Daryl ‘K9’ Dabon was also unlucky as he lost via decision against Unified MMA’s Sif ‘Axe’ Badio.
In the undercards, two young fighters from Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu in Josh ‘Buffalo’ Ybanez and Andre Lance Caniga both scored victories against their respective foes.
Ybanez destroyed John Flores of Team Talisay en route to a lopsided unanimous decision win, while Caniga brawled his way to victory against Edward Peloni of Lapu-Lapu City.
In the lone mixed martial arts bout, Steve Murillo won his debut fight in impressive fashion as he defeated Team Bagwis’ Joemel Marilao via second round TKO.
The amateur Muay Thai kickboxing and MMA tournament is part of Cebu City Sports Commission’s grassroots development program for combat sports that also includes boxing, karatedo and arnis. (FREEMAN)
