Casimero relishes training in Vegas

CEBU, Philippines – Former world champion Johnriel ‘Cuadro Alas’ Casimero (21-2, 13KOs) is happy and enjoying his training camp in Las Vegas with hopes that it can help improve his skills and eventually transform him into a better fighter.

"My training here (in Las Vegas) is way different from what I usually do over there (in Phl). I am happy because I can feel that my conditioning is getting better and I am also getting stronger. I will train hard here so that I can show to my fans that I am a better fighter compared to the old me," said Casimero, who once reigned as the IBF light flyweight champion.

Casimero and fellow Pinoy boxer Marvin 'Marvelous' Sonsona are currently training at the Roy Jones Jr. Fight Academy owned by the former undisputed light heavyweight king.

"It is a great privilege training at the gym of my idol (Jones Jr). He gave me some tips in boxing and I am proud that he considered me as a boxer that has a great potential," said the pride of Ormoc City.

Casimero and Sonsona are going through a scientific approach in training, especially that they are working with Angel Heredia, the renowned conditioning coach of Mexican legends Juan Manuel Marquez and Jorge Arce.

At the moment, Casimero is waiting for the announcement of his next fight, but he is already in line for another crack at the world title being the No.1 contender and mandatory challenger for the IBF flyweight throne presently held by undefeated Thai Amnat Ruenroeng.

Aside from the gym of Roy Jones, Casimero and Sonsona also worked out and sparred at the sweat shop of Floyd Mayweather also in Las Vegas. (FREEMAN)
