Eagle helps Weiwei Gao rule Alta Vista Fun Golf

CEBU, Philippines – Weiwei Gao holed an eagle three on the final hole and bagged the lowest gross honors in last weekend’s Alta Vista Fun Golf Tournament edging his younger brother for the plum via the countback at the AVGCC course in Pardo, Cebu City.

Weiwei, 15, finished the front nine, three strokes behind his 13-year-old brother, Weiyu, who shot three-under-par 32.  At the back nine, Weiwei birdied the 10th, 13th, and 17th, but was still trailing his brother by two.

On the final hole, Weiwei hit the green of the downhill par-5 in two and nailed his eagle to tie his brother at gross four-under-par 68.  He won the title by virtue of a better second nine of 33 strokes against the 36 of Weiyu.

Erik Lapasaran Lim bagged the lowest net honors by shooting 60 strokes off a gross 76.  He won the title after edging Koji Yonezawa in the countback.

Highlighting the two-day, 18-hole tournament were three aces scored on hole number 13.  First to nail a hole-in-one was Rod Señido, who made it last Saturday morning.  A few flights later, Marina Kaufmann also aced the same hole.

Joseph Dy was the last to nail an ace making it on Sunday, the last day of the tournament.

The 13th was one of two special par-3 holes for the tournament, which were only 82 yards long.  The three players will equally share a Sunriser Wonderbike, which was the prize at stake on that hole.

The class A title went to Tyler Po with a net score of 66 strokes off a gross 72.  He edged Weiyu Gao in the countback.

Gao settled for the first runner-up honors while second runner-up was Glenn Sebastian with a net score of 67 besting Doli Cabahug in the countback.

Kevin Durr topped class B with a net score of 61 strokes off a gross 76.  First runner-up was Cristino Lim with a net score of 62 beating Jun Enriquez and Alvin Suarez in the countback.  Enriquez settled for the second runner-up award after edging Suarez in another countback.

Yonezawa, who missed out on the overall lowest net plum, settled for the class C title while Allan Osorio finished as first runner-up with a net score of 62 beating Yasu Hasu in the countback.  Hasu settled for the second runner-up plum.

Hospicio ‘Razi’ Razon bagged the lowest gross honors for the seniors (55-69 years old) division scoring three-over-par 75 strokes.

Lowest net for the seniors’ class went to Tournament Chairman and Club Director Vicente ‘Inting’ Go with 65 strokes beating Edwin Robin in the countback.  Robin took the first runner-up honors while second runner-up was Rolando Alberto with 66.

Rod Señido ran away with the super seniors (70 years old and above) crown with a net score of 63 while runner-up honors went to John Uy beating David Villono in the countback.

The distaff side was ruled by Crestina Sumalinog with a net score of 64 off a gross 99 while runner-up honors went to Mayet Alba with 66.

Lawyer Rico Tautho topped the guest division with a net score of 58 strokes off a gross 90. Paolo Alberto finished as first runner-up with 62 strokes beating Mario Parungao in the countback.  Parungao settled for the second runner-up plum. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (FREEMAN)
