CEBU, Philippines – Some of Cebu's top daredevils and their equally-famous rivals from neighboring provinces will once again try to outdo each other in the sixth leg of the 2014 MS Motosuit Motocross Series this Sunday at Tangasan racetrack in Valladolid, Carcar City infront of Super Metro Gaisano.
Billed as 5th Mayor Nice Apura Motocross Cup, the event is among the highlights of Carcar's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patroness St. Catherine de Alexandria.
"I'm very happy that we are able to reach our target of coming up with six legs for our comeback series this year," said MS Motosuit big boss Lou Ornopia.
After nearly two decades of organizing races, the one-time Sportsman of the Year awardee by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu take a leave of absence in 2013, but not for long as buoyed by his unflinching passion for the sport coupled with strong public clamor, he decided to plunge back to the racing circuit early this year.
"This is probably our last event of the year and we will make it sure to end our season with a bang," said Ornopia. "I assure motocross fans in the city of Carcar of another highly entertaining race, something that they should look forward to."
The multi-titled Jon-Jon Adlawan of Man and Machine Racing Promotions, the leading contender for the "Rider of the Year" plum, banners the list ot elite riders who will showcase their gravity-defying and adrenaline-pumping stunts in the one-day joust that coincides with Manny Pacquiao's ring showdown against American Chris Algieri over at The Venetian in Macau, China.
The other stars to watch out for are Venil Abellar, Wensor Famorca of Guimaras, Dondon Yuson of Davao, and Cebu's pride John Flores and crowd-darling BJ Pepito.
Just like in the previous legs, the categories to be contested are the mini 60cc and 85cc, beginners, local enduro, open enduro, executive A, B and C, novice, intermediate, expert and pro open.
Fully supported by Carcar City under the flagship of Mayor Nice Apura, the forthcoming exreme sport spectacle is also backed up by Narra Park Resort of Alcoy, CTM-Media Inc., Jonadel's Inns and Suites, Canoy's Canyon Estate, CCSC Construction, Outlast Bikers, Barangay Captain William Racoma, Geraldine Ybañez, and Amy Lauron of Lauron Air Conditioning.
Meanwhile, action-packed motocross show will be telecast over CCTN 47 every Saturday from 10 to 10:30 am, with replays every Sunday from 10 to 10:30 p.m. The half-hour TV special features the humble beginnings of Cebu motocross as well as some highlights of the annual MS Motosuit series. —EBV) (FREEMAN)
