Aegis earns share of Division 1 lead in E-League

CEBU, Philippines- Defending champion Aegis Vipers pounded through a lopsided 84-35 win over the Calltek Trojans to earn a share of Division 1 lead in the 10th CSCC E-League men's basketball tournament last Saturday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Gamaliel Bas chalked up 15 points on top of a dozen rebounds for Aegis, which used a strong opening statement, 28-9, to rip the game apart.

Ryan Veloso added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five steals as Aegis continued to pounce on the hapless Calltek in the next three periods to come up with a 49-point massacre.

Kevin Clark Navaja also had 12 points as Aegis joined the Accenture Sharks on top the Division 1 leaderboards with identical 7-1 win-loss records.

Mark Louise Gellez was the lone double-digit scorer with 12 for Calltek, which slipped to its sixth loss in eight starts.

In the other game, the ePerformax Reds outlasted the Microsourcing Bullies, 68-47, to firm up its hold of the second spot in Division 2 with an 8-1 win-loss record.

Michael Adam Pagdalian had 17 points and four rebounds, John Ryan Benlota scored 15 and hauled nine rebounds, while Brian Canares Abella chipped in 14 markers for ePerformax, which used a crippling 28-12 run in the second quarter to break the game wide open.

Carlson Alegrado had 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals but his efforts proved futile as Microsourcing still wallowed at the cellar without a win in eight games.

In the other results, the Wipro Tigers eased through a 68-48 rout of the Sykes Pioneers, while the 1&1 Marauders walloped the Teleperformance Kings,  72-63. Franz Martinez and Samson Miguel Mansalay connived for 31 points as Wipro improved its win-loss record to 6-3, while Raymaond Basañez charted 22 points, four assists, three rebounds, two steals and as many blocks in leading 1&1 to its third win in seven starts. Jude Lorenz Camposo heavily backed up Basañez with 19 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Marco Antonio Real came up with 19 points, eight assists and five steals for the 3-5 Teleperformance while Gerald Bien Galarido had 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals for Sykes, which languished from its sixth defeat against only two victories. —/EBV) (FREEMAN)
