Donayre upbeat on ONE FC debut
CEBU, Philippines- Dubai-based Cebuano mixed martial artist Vaugh 'The Spawn' Donayre is aiming for no less than a swift victory in his ONE Fighting Championship debut against the undefeated Mohammed Walid on August 29 at the Dubai World Trade Center.
"I am going to hunt for a knockout against Walid," said Donayre, the first Cebuano to see action in ONE FC, the largest MMA organization in Asia. "My opponent is a well-rounded fighter who is a welterweight champion in Dubai FC, but I am ready for everything he has. I trust my training here at the Champion Club Gym."
Donayre, who sports a 7-1 win-loss record, started to hone up his MMA skills at Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu and DEFTAC Cebu, but he left for the oil-rich emirate to be an MMA trainer. "I came here to be a trainer and I am happy that it's also here that I got the chance to make it bigtime. This is an important fight for me and my career, hopefully I will hurdle this one."
Donayre believes that if gets past Walid, it would make him one of the Filipino title contenders in ONE FC.
"If I win this one, I am hoping to be included in another ONE FC card in Manila this December. That would be a great chance for me to showcase my skills in front of my Filipino countrymen," said the former Universal Reality Combat Championship warrior.
Aside from Donayre, two other Pinoy MMA fighters will see action in Dubai card. Former world boxing champion Ana 'Hurricane' Julaton will make his second MMA fight against Ann Osman of Malaysia, while the Baguio-native Geje 'Gravity' Eustaquio of Team Lakay guns for the flyweight championship against Brazilian Adriano Morales.
