Sharper Focus after Split

Champion athletes almost always need something or someone as their motivation to succeed.  There are standards set, goals targeted, rituals followed for them to achieve the desired results.

Usually, family members and relations are the inspirations for sports people to persevere and in turn, the subjects return the favor by standing by and supporting the athlete.

The case of the world’s number one golfer is different.  Rory MacIlroy, the 25-year old champion from Northern Ireland dumped his girlfriend to master the game.  He admitted that splitting from tennis star Caroline Wozniacki has helped improved and developed further his golf game.  A big ouch for the lady.

Wozniacki, the Danish tennis ace currently ranked number 12 in the world, could have been a distraction for Nike’s fast-rising endorser (Tiger Woods is almost extinct, hello).  Without a girlfriend to attend and worry about, and maybe nag him, McIlroy says his routine is now golf, gym and win, immersing himself in what he does best and doing it even better.

He withdrew his affection from his girlfriend and committed himself exclusively to his game.  Rory is presently engaged to golf and the sport loves him in return and oh yes, so does his sponsors.  Sure, Caroline, from being number one in the WTA circuit four years ago to her present ranking today, is still adored by her fans but it pales in comparison to the affection displayed towards her former flame.

McIlroy, being this year’s hottest golfer, has every golf nut craving a little something related to him.  A US-based golf memorabilia company, Green Jacket Auctions, reportedly paid a good amount of money to have his winning ball from last month’s Open Championships.

A custom-made Nike RZN “RORS” was used by Rory and after sinking the winning shot, he picked up the ball and threw it towards the gallery.  The man who caught the ball, Lee Horner of Leeds, England was tracked and found.

Negotiations were then made by Green Jacket Auctions to acquire from Horner the “dream piece” for golf memorabilia collectors.  Horner turned out tough to negotiate with the auction company eventually settling for $52 thousand.  If you have money to burn, who cares how much a dimpled ball will cost.

Sadly, I am not a golf fan.  The equipment alone prohibits me from getting an interest.  Besides, I just could not understand why someone would want to whack a ball to several hundred yards, go after it and whack it some more further until it settles into a hole that that it can barely fit in.  The games people play and enjoy.

A member of the Senate has filed a bill, specifically Senate Bill 2344, prohibiting a motorcycle rider from having a back rider unless that someone is a member of the family.  The logic is to deter crimes mostly done by people riding in tandem. Some of the ridiculous ideas we endure from people who populate the country’s legislative department.

If this bill somehow finds it way to approval, motorcycle riders better have their marriage and birth certificates on hand aside from the vehicle’s license and registration.  This proposed bill is the product of the Eat Bulaga! culture.

If the purpose is to deter all these random acts of shooting and killing, why not sponsor a bill allowing citizens to possess and carry firearms anywhere for them to protect themselves and loved ones.  This will surely give criminal elements second thoughts in doing their acts as their targets can happily return to them the favor.  Agree or disagree?
