Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Team T. Padilla and Team Alcover got off to winning starts in the Christian Athletic Volunteers (CAV) Invitational Women's Volleyball Tournament at the Tejero Sports Complex the other night.

Team Alcover of Sambag 1 survived a thrilling three-set thriller against Tejero Volleyball Club, 27-24, 23-25, 25-20, while T. Padilla posted an easy 25-21, 25-14 triumph over the Kasambagan Gilas.

A total of eight teams are vying for the coveted crown. The rest of the contenders are Team Harry of Villagonzalo II, Villagonzalo I Team, and Bob Hughes Christian Academy.

Games are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday, but there will be no games tonight according to tournament head, Tejero councilman Garry Lao.

Lao said the event, a ministry of the Risen Saviour Bible Baptist Church, is aligned with his platform of community empowerment through sports development.

"Through this kind of activity, the barangay and the community will be able to hone the skills of our volleyball players. We also would like them to get involved in sports and develop their whole being while veering them away from vices," said Lao. (FREEMAN)
