CEBU, Philippines - The expanded basketball training camp of Sunsport will begin on August 2 at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club along D. Jakosalem Street, this city.
The five-week cage clinic, which is open to aspiring hoopsters aged eight to 17 years old, will be held on Saturdays from August 2 to 30 covering two hours per session from 12nn to 2 p.m.
Training director Giovannie “JoJo” Romarate said they usually hold the annual event only during summer but due to strong public demand, they decided to come up with a weekly camp.
In the course of their training, the participants will learn both the fundamental and technical aspect of the sport.
"We will impart to our students the fundamentals of the sport such as proper shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork and other related drills," said Romarate, who is also the head coach of Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology Skyblazers.
"Aside from that basics of basketball, they will also be taught on some offensive and defensive strategies, on-court communication and other technical aspect of the game," he added. "Above all these drills, we want to instill in them the value of hardwork, discipline and teamwork as well as the spirit of sportsmanship, which is the very essence of a well-rounded athlete."
Registration fee is pegged at only P1,000 inclusive of an upper jersey and a Sunsport basketball 2014 edition.
