CEBU, Philippines - Proving true to the monicker "Fastest Paddlers on the Planet" (bestowed by the International Dragonboat Federation Cobra Philippine Dragonboat Team PDBF set a new world record for Standard Boat Premier Mixed 100 meter category, clocking in 23.445 seconds to clinch the gold medal in the recent 1st Dragonboat World Cup held in Fuzhou, China.
Dragonboat Magazine, Inc. ranked the Philippines No.5 in the world prior to the World Cup, but the Philippines catapulted to overall silver (overall 2nd), after bagging more medals: a second gold in standard boat premier mixed 500 meter, a silver in standard boat premier mixed 200mr and a bronze in 400m Relay of Small Boat Men and Small Boat Women.
The Philippines was just one gold shy against first placer China (3 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze).
PDBF also holds the world record in two more categories:standard boat premier men's 200 meter (40.02 seconds) and standard boat premier mixed 200m (43.50 seconds).
Cobra PDBF is comprised of top notch paddlers from the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy and the cream of PDBF club teams. Team members from various walks of life came together to paddle towards victory. (PR) (FREEMAN)
