I suppose it would be safe to say that trail runs and off-road mountain bike competitions found a home on the hills of a town somewhere up north made famous by rosquillos and masi. A big international off-road triathlon franchise held their races for the fourth consecutive time here. In between, local organizers find Liloan kind of appealing for this extreme sport.
Organized by Joer Canete and Cycling Cebu in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Liloan and the Sports and Cultural Association of Liloan, Sika-Run Off-Road Duathlon and Trail Run fires off on May 24 and 25 at the hills of Barangays Jubay and San Vicente.
Racers will pass by some of the routes used by the XTerra Off-road Tri Series held last March and although mostly scenic with views of the sea and the mountains, the course will be technical. Don’t worry, the degree of difficulty will give you enough time to appreciate the scenery. I’ve checked the area and even attempting to register was never on my wildest dreams.
The off-road duathlon event will be early morning of May 24. The 5K run–20K bike–5K run event will have five categories:
Juniors 25 years old and below
Seniors 26 to 35
Masters 36 – up
Open Elite
Mixed Relay
The following day, May 25, the trail run will have 10K and 5K men and women’s open. Registration fee for the duathlon is P700 and P350 for the trail run.
Interested parties may register at Paul DP Graphics at Rozen Building, AC Cortes Avenue, Globex Logistics Corp., KRC Building, Subangdaku, both at Mandaue City. You may also register at Supra Racing with branches at Liloan and Consolacion and at the Liloan Municipal Hall.
Prizes are attractive and all finishers will be given medals. There are also freebies given by the organizers for early registrants. For more details contact Joer at 0918-9241713 or call 564-3131 and look for Warren or Andrew.
Mark May 24 and 25 on your calendars. Sikad ug dagan sa Liloan. Hala, larga!
