SWU starts strong in Nestea Beach Volley

CEBU, Philippines - Southwestern University beach volleyball bets went off to a good start in this year's Nestea Beach Volleyball dubbed as ‘Battle of the Champions’ yesterday at the Boracay beach.

The SWU tandem of Rommel Pepito and Relan Taneo opened their campaign with a 21-17, 21-18 thrashing of  De La Salle-St.Benilde.

After a short rest, SWU went to outsmart the University of San Jose-Recoletos duo of Jade Illiot and Owen  Belen in the deciding set, 18-21, 21-17, 16-14.

SWU’s female bets in Therese Rae Ramas and Florimel Rodriguez also showed a lot of promise after posting back-to-back victories as well.

Ramas and Rodriguez pulled away with a 21-8, 21-13 victory against the University of Perpetual Help System-Laguna before crushing Central Philippines University, 21-19, 21-14.

Meanwhile,USPF's Edmar Bonono and Edward Ybanez saw their tandem working well scoring a 21-13, 21-14 triumph over the University of Mindanao-Tagum men's duo.

The defending champion University of the Visayas represented this time by Jade Becaldo and Mark Anthony Fernandez will start its bid today. (FREEMAN)
