A Pinoy in the Super Bowl XLVIII?
Not of you know about it but Seahawk wide receiver Doug Baldwin is ¼ Filipino on his mother side. I'm not sure if he's the first NFL player with close Filipino roots to hopefully play in the Super Bowl but as far as I know, he's the first.
Not only that, Baldwin's grandmother, is from Tacloban and she and her relatives were victims of Yolanda. To show support for his family and the Philippines, Baldwin came out of the stadium tunnel, waiving a huge Philippine flag last November 17, when they played against the Minnesota Vikings. Of course, they flattened the Vikings, 41-20. So, if the Broncos, can't win the Super Bowl, then I hope Baldwin and the Seahawks can.
NFL Playoffs 2014: From 12 to 8.
The New England Patriots simply overwhelmed the Indianapolis Colts. Despite the absence of 3 starter lost to injury early in the season, QB Tom Brady and Coach Bill Belicheck almost always find a way of winning with no names, has been's and the unwanted. They meet the winner of the Denver Broncos or the San Diego Chargers next week.
The number one team, the Seahawks, won over the New Orleans Saints but they had their fans on pin and needles until the last moments of the game. They will meet the winner of the San Francisco 49ers and the Carolina Panther's next week.
I think it will be the Pats vs. Broncos and the 49ers vs. Seahawks for the Conference Finals and the right to meet in New York for Super Bowl XLVIII.
Tour Ni Frank 2014
It's now definite, the Trans-central Highway will not feature in this year's Tour ni Frank. Instead, it will trace it roots where it all began.
The first few editions of the TnF consisted of a crit at the Mandaue Reclamation Area on a Saturday followed by a road race the next day, Danao-Lugo-Danao. It was my suggestion to Frank Gatdula that we bring the race to the backbreaking climb from Balamban to Cebu via the newly paved TCH.
It was a hit at the start and cyclists from all over the country and from the US, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Holland- wanted to taste the sweet smell of suffering in the 15% grades of the climbs. But as the years passed, some of the riders would beg off due to the severity of the test.
So I guess that with this and the TnF's history in mind, Frank has decided to change the route to the original, albeit tweaking it with additional K's. Instead of the usual Lugo turning point, some 60kms were added, making the Bogo the turning point instead. All in all, it will be a 140km race.
Finally, Alex Billan's team, Excellent Noodles, will again be here after winning the inaugural Cebu Cycling Road Race……Israel Alonzo will be leading a 5-man team from Ubay while Anklai Zamora and Bano Baculanta will represent Southern Leyte……Congratulations to the winners of the Halad kang Mano Amon Road Race last December 28, 2013 U40yo- 1- Amon Espinosa, 2- Nilo Barbalose……+40yo 1- Philip Sianz, 2- Ome Rodriguez, 3- Toto Lim, 4- Diding Jaluag, 5- Raymond Lim
