DBFL to kick off new football season

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu football season begins right after the first week of the new year via the Don Bosco Football League (DBFL) on January 7 at Don Bosco Technology Center in Punta Princesa, this city.

The tournament features the men's and ladies open and the under 12, 13 and 16 age groups.

"The idea here is to bring forward the football culture to this city. This league-type event will be patterned like the ones in Europe. It's not a festival-type, something that has not yet been done here," said DBTC Administrator Fr. Abondio Bacatan.

All games will be done mostly at night since there are no playing schedule on weekdays.

"As of now we have two football fields, one with the standard size and the other one a bit smaller so we can do two games simultaenously. Leylam also donated a standard size goal for it. Out lighting is also enough for night games," added Fr.Bacatan.

The DBFL is open to all interested clubs but they will still pass through a screening, said coach Glenn Ramos.

"We have to check if the teams or their players can really sustain the entire game. Di biya ni festival-type nga kadyot ra ang duwa," said Ramos, one of the organizers.

For the initial staging, coach Ramos is looking at a maximum of six teams in the youth division and 10 in the  men's open.  (FREEMAN)
