Latino boxers in Pinoy Pride 23 arrive
CEBU, Philippines - Five Latin warriors who will be featured in the 23rd edition of the Pinoy Pride series on November 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum have finally arrived in Manila.
Dubbed as ‘Filipinos Kontra Latinos’, the surefire blockbuster card presented by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports.
Former Mexican world title-holders Sammy Gutierrez and Jose Alfredo Rodriguez arrived on Saturday with their trainers.
Gutierrez will challenge WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes of the ALA Boxing Gym, while Rodriguez is scheduled to face former world title challenger Milan Melindo.
Undefeated Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago also landed with his trainer in Manila on Sunday. Buitrago will be trying his luck as he battles WBO minimumweight champion Merlito Sabillo.
Also arrived on Sunday were Puerto Rican Lucian Gonzales and Vladimir Baez, a knockout artist from Dominican Republic.
Gonzales will provide a tough test to former two-time world title challenger AJ Banal, while Baez will slug it out against light welterweight prospect Jason Pagara.
The Latin fighters will be at the PSA Forum today, followed by a public workout in SM City Masinag on Wednesday. (FREEMAN)
