Maiden Visayas ICTSI Inter-School golfest a success
CEBU, Philippines - It was a collage of schools and winners in the team and individual competition of the 013 Visayas ICTSI-Inter School Golf Championship held at the Cebu Country Club last October 27-28.
Golfers from Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), University of San Carlos (USC), Cebu International School (CIS), Centre for International Education (CIE) and PAREF Springdale won the different division team and individual championships.
SHS-AdC won the Girls 2 division (Grades 8-12) behind the duo of Ericka Lim and Alyeska Yunam. Lim also won the division’s individual title after scoring a two-day total of 89 points, topping LK Go (89) of CIE via tiebreaker. Yunam was second runner-up with a 79.
On the other hand, Gen Nagai of CIS won the individual gold medal of the Boys Juniors division (Grades 9-12) with his total of 105 points, but CIE topped the team championship behind the trio of Wei Wei Gao, Ryo Haga and Jun Haga who combined for a total of 230 points. Gao was runner-up in the individual category (102) while Airon Sorino of Cabangcalan High School won the bronze with this 79.
In the Boys Midgets 1 division (Grades 6-8), Wei Yu Gao of CIE won the individual plum, nipping Gilbert Purcia IV of SHS-AdC via tiebreaker after both delivered a total 91 points after two rounds. Jed Daniel Yap of SHS-AdC was second runner-up after submitting 84 points.
PAREF Springdale though, won the team title behind the trio of Scott Patrick Reyes, John Edward de los Reyes and Ryuya Tatara. Tatsuyoshi Ochiai of the Singapore School of Cebu (SSC) dominated the Boys Midgets 2 division (Grades 3-5) with 79 points, trailed by Ren Moromasa of CIE (49) and Connor Macan (37).
Junia Gabasa of BRIGHT Academy topped the Girls 3 division (Grades 3-7) with 105 points, followed by Angela Pearl Mangana (101) of Asian College of Technology (ACT) and Jordan Paige Ouano (43) of SSC.
USC golfers topped both the boys and girls Seniors division (College) with Harvey Sytiongsa (92) topping teammate Shotaru Suda (79) and John Philip Hernandez (78). Jenny Lerio won the girls individual title with a 55, while Carrie Sytiongsa had a 44.
The 2013 Visayas ICTSI-Inter School Golf Championship is being held for the first time in Cebu, patterned after its regular series of inter-school tournaments in Metro Manila. It has attracted some 45 golfers coming from 10 schools in Cebu.
The tournament applies the Modified Stableford scoring system which is also known as the Molave Points System. All players played two rounds at the Cebu Country Club. The team and individual champions qualify for the national finals which will be held December 16-17. (FREEMAN)
