CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) scored their second straight victory against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 3-1, in the men’s volleyball action of the 13th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season the other day at the Aznar Coliseum.
With their female counterparts out of title contention, the spiking Jaguars are doing everything to chalk up wins going to their goal of getting into the finals.
USJ-R started strong in the first set, 25-22, but USPF fought back with a thrilling, 25-23, in the second set.
However, the Josenians proved to be the hungrier and more determined squad in the third and fourth set, finishing off USPF, 25-22 and 25-19.
USJ-R is on top of the standing with 2-0, while USPF stands with an even 1-1 card as University of the Visayas (UV) and Southwestern University (SWU) still seeking their first victory in the tournament. USJ-R's last semifinal assignment is at Sunday against UV.
In the secondary boys division, defending champion USJ-R also cruised into their second victory in three games in the expense of University of San Carlos (USC), 25-22, 19-25 and 25-20. (FREEMAN)
