Bradford Centennial Run set Oct. 26

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - To mark its 100th year anniversary, the United Christian Church of the Philippines-Bradford will stage its first ever run for a cause dubbed as ‘Bradford Centennial Run’ on October 26 starting and ending at the UCCP Bradford grounds along Osmeña Boulevard, this city.

The charity race will feature the 3-kilometer, 6K, 12K and 21K categories.

The organizers decided to stage the event to generate funds that will be used in the restoration and rehabilitation of the old Bradford Memorial Church, the first evangelical church built in the Cebu City in 1913. It was a gift from Dwight Day, who named the church in honor of her mother Matilda Bradford.

“We are doing this run not to promote Bradford but as a way of celebrating God’s faithfulness in giving life to the chapel that survived a hundred years, even after the World War II,” said Rev. Haniel Joses Taganas, Administrative Pastor of UCCP Bradford United Church.

The top three finishers in each category will receive cash prizes and medals, while all finishers under the 21K division will receive a specially-designed commemorative medal.

“We have no target number of runners in this event but we hope that we will reach a thousand of runners. The more the merrier as they say,” said race organizer Richie Al Villagante.

Entry fee is pegged at P300 for the 3K and 6K, P350 for the 12K, and P500 for the 21K inclusive of snacks, race bib and singlet.

Registration centers include Runnr-Ayala, ARC at Raintree Mall, UCCP Bradford and J Centre Mall.  (FREEMAN)
