CEBU, Philippines - Former WBO/IBA super bantamweight champion Ana "The Hurricane" Julaton (12-4-1, 2 KOs) suffered a heart-breaking defeat by unanimous decision at the hands of Mexican-American Celina “The Professional†Salazar (5-1-2, 1 KO) yesterday at the Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico.
In a report from fightnews.com, the 33-year-old Filipina boxer failed to get the nod of the judges as she was clearly outpointed and outgunned by the rising Latina star .
Aside from proving that she is now ready for a world title crack, Salazar also avenged the defeat of her compatriot Yolanda Segura and Abigail Ramos, who were the last two victims of Julaton.
After a one-year layoff, ring rust somehow caught up with Julaton as she was sluggish and slow compared to Salazar, who easily connected head and body shots to pile up points.
With her defeat, Julaton’s dream of getting another title shot crumbles. Her scheduled fight against IBF champion Yasmin Rivas on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 14 is now in jeopardy. (FREEMAN)
