A lot of my friends has been asking if I joined the Cobra Ironman 70.3 two Sunday's ago and I told them no. Just because I have been into the sport of cycling for a long time now meant that I can just add swimming and running into my cycling and ease into triathlons without breaking a stride. That's what I thought then and I'm sure a lot of swimmers and runners think the same when they first started entertaining of joining tri's- I'm going in and beat everyone in my specialty, which is the bike leg. Believe me, it's not that simple.
For those who haven't have had enough of tri's, there are two big ones coming in Bohol. DEFY 123 is a 1km swim, a 110km bike leg and a final 12km run on mid-October. This event will be held in on of the newest and plushiest hotel in Panglao Island, the Bellevue.
Then there is the TIMEX 226 Bohol triathlon, penned on November 30, 2013. This is a full marathon meaning, double the Cobra Ironman distance, which is, a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike and a 42km run. This will be held on the eastern seaboard of Bohol, in the town of Anda. This is already the 3rd edition of the event and although its not as popular as the Cobra Ironman 70.3, this is a very well organized and well supported event. Since it's a full tri, it's sick, and only those who love self-flagellation will be there since there are no crowds nor stars who will be there. But if you're really into triathlons but can't qualify for the Word Championships in Kona, Hawaii, then this is the ideal event.
Road Racing next Month
Thanks to Jerome "Ome" Rodriguez for organizing a couple of road races next month. The first is in conjunction with the fiesta of Danao City, on September 8. The route will be an out and back, starting and finishing in Danao City with the turning point at Ilihan, Sogod. Distance is about 90km. This route will be perfect especially with the newly laid tarmac.
The second event is a hill climb, which starts at the JY Square in Lahug and end up in Buak, just below the TOPS Resort. Distance is about 7km but it's a climber's race. This will take just under 25min for the exceptional cat cyclist and about 40min for me. It's short but painful!
Finally, there's relative truce going on in the European professional racing. For those who had ridden the Tour de France, they are still mending, waiting for the next rendezvous, the last Grand Tour of the year, the VueltaaEspana which will start this weekend. Alberto Contador will not be defending the crown he won last year as he's still recuperating from the mugging he got from Chris Froome at the Tour. Vincenzo Nibali, the 2013 Girod'Italia champion, will instead be the favorite. After the Vuelta will the World Championships. For those who still have not shown anything this season, this will be the last time to shine.
