CEBU, Philippines - Japanese ring star Tomoki ‘El Mexicanito’ Kameda (27-0, 18KOs) vows to wage an all-out war when he challenges WBO bantamweight champion Paulos ‘The Rock’ Ambunda (20-0, 10KOs) of Namibia in the main event of ‘Battle of the Undefeated’ fightcard on August 1 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Tomoki, who arrived in town the other day after a six-week training camp in Japan, expressed confidence that he will become a world champion by knocking out the South African champ.
“It’s going to be a war. I am going to knock him out and I am pretty sure that the fight will not go the distance,†said Kameda, who is wrapping up his extensive training regimen at the RWS Gym of Cebuano boxing impresario Rex “Wakee†Salud.
“I heard that he (Ambunda) studied the tapes of my fight and I am happy that he has also prepared hard," added Kameda. "But I have the advantage in speed and I can also match his power.â€
However, the 22-year-old Tomoki admitted that he is feeling a little bit of pressured as his older brother Koki recently defended his WBC bantamweight title with a lopsided unanimous decision victory against Filipino challenger John Mark Apolinario.
“My brother just won and I am inspired to be a world champion also but I am feeling a little pressure going into this fight,†said.
For sure, Tomoki won't feel that pressure come the fight night as more than 600 Japanese nationals are coming over to cheer for him at the ringside.
In the supporting main event of the slambang show presented by Kameda Boxing of Japan in coordination with Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud Promotions International, RWS Gym fighter Marlon ‘Nightmare’ Tapales (22-2, 9KOs) will take on Fredirex Rodriguez (11-2, 8KOs) of Bukidnon.
