Yeo, Tee rule 6th Amo Cup
CEBU, Philippines - Alex Yeo and Jimmy Tee bagged the top honors in the just-concluded 6th Albino D. Gothong Memorial Cup, also known as the Amo Cup, at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last weekend.
Yeo fired a gross score of even-par 72 strokes of nines of 36 and 36 to bag the lowest gross honors of the event held in honor of the late sportsman and philanthropist.
Tee scored nines of 43 and 42 for a gross 85 less his handicap of 27 ended up at 14-under-par 58 for the lowest net plum.
The lowest gross title for class A went to Marvin Mendoza who fired one-over-par 73 strokes.
John Hernandez won the lowest net honors scoring 63 strokes off a gross 74. Runner-up honors went to Dr. Arnold Tan with a net score of 65 beating Sir Cross Abarintos in the countback.
Lawyer Marlo Cugtas fired the lowest gross for class B with two-over-par 74 strokes.
The lowest net honors for this group went to Benedict Uy with a net score of 61 off a gross 79 while runner-up honors went to Richard Lim with a net score of 64 off a gross 76.
Jojo Cañada won the lowest gross honors for class C shooting 84 strokes.
Jun Sasuman took the lowest net honors for class C with 62 off a gross 85 while lawyer Jephte Romea finished as runner-up with a net score of 64 off a gross 88.
Boy Cunanan fired four-over-par 76 strokes to bag the lowest gross honors for the seniors’ (55 to 69 years old) division.
The lowest net honors for the seniors’ class went to Ed Sy with 61 strokes while AVGCC Chairman Oly Dychangco finished as runner-up with a net score of 62.
Rolly Santos ruled the super seniors’ (70 years old and above) category firing 82 strokes to take the lowest gross honors. The lowest net plum went to John Uy with 60 strokes off a gross 88.
Newly-crowned national juniors champion Ericka Lim bagged the lowest gross honors for the ladies division with her one-over-par 73 strokes. The lowest net plum went to Dumaguete’s Tess Magazzeni with 65 strokes.
Marco Mendoza took the lowest gross honors of the guest division with 73 strokes leading Bayani Garcia for the plum via the countback.
Noel Abad won the lowest net plum with 64 while runner-up honors went to Jose Ong with 68 edging Harry Domingo and Baltaire Balangauan.
Special prizes also went to re-elected 4th District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, who made the most accurate drive on hole No. 11 missing the center line by half an inch, and to Marvin Mendoza for being nearest to the pin on hole No. 6 landing his tee shot four feet and eight inches from the hole.
