Inter-Club Bootfest QCU, CAFC go 2-0

CEBU, Philippines - The Queen City United and its sister-team Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) blasted separate foes to take the lead in their respective groups in the 13th Cebu Inter-Club Football Cup yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

 

The QCU booters cruised to their second straight victory after crushing ERCO FC, 5-0, in group A.  QCU came out firing in the first half with four goals from Dan Villarico at the 4th, Jade Paghubasan at the 19th, Rene Menchavez at the 24th and Samson Olaniyi at the 42nd. Joseph Rodriguez sealed  QCU's lopsided win at the 51st.

In the other group A match, San Roque Rehab spared no mercey in a 11-0 rout of the hapless Cebu Koreans, 11-0. Harry and Ryan Bordalba led San Roque's charge with three goals each.

On the other hand, host CAFC posted its second win in a row in group B at the expense of Mactan Camellanz, 3-0, with all goals coming from Ryan Hemedia at the 24th, 33rd  and 84th.

Defending champion Hiroshi, for its part, settled for a 3-all draw with the Nigerian-composed Samba FC.

Also in group B, the Nigerian-manned University of Cebu bounced back from a previous loss and vented ire on Don Bosco United via a 2-1 squeaker.

Anthony Zhedioma nailed UC's first goal at 23rd followed by Benjamin Bekeboh at the 25th, the same time the latter was slapped with a yellow card.

DBU managed to score at the 43rd through Bong Aller, but that was the best it could muster.

In the 40-above class, the Kevlar-sponsored Queen City United-A opened its title bid with a 9-0 demolition of its team B, while Hiroshi and KN Ferraren fought to a scoreless draw.

Over at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City, the University of San Carlos and the Ateneo de Cebu defeated CTU, 4-0, and Samba,7-0, respectively in the ladies open.

In the 18-under,SHS-AdC scored a 2-1 cliffhanger over Abellana National School-Pomeroy, but lost to Lahug, 3-0, in the 11-under.
