CEBU, Philippines - The New Millennium Hardware '95 completed a two-game sweep of Dewfoam '88, this time via a lopsided 46-30 decision to clinch the championship of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
The outcome was a far cry during the series opener where Class '95 needed a five-extension before pinning down Class '88, 51-45, in a highly physical match.
Explosive guard Donald Anthony Ting once again spearheaded his team's offensive charge, cashing in 23 points as Class '95 snatched its third CECABA crown. They won back-to-back titles in the league's 2007 and 2008 seasons.
The NM Hardware-backed squad actually had a lukewarm start resulting into an early 8-10 deficit, but Ting unloaded 12 points in a blistering 17-6 run that vaulted Class '95 to a nine-point advantage at halftime, 25-16.
After mellowing down in the third, Class '95 shot back to life in the final quarter where they outscored Class '88, 14-6, to wrap up the 16-point romp.
Gregorio Aguilar, Jr. and Ricky Yu connived for 17 points, but no Class '88 player cashed in double figures.
The scores
Class '95 (46) - Ting 23, Dy Teves 9, Yu 8, Arjona 2, Ong 2, Ho 2
Class '88 (30) - Aguilar 9, Yu 8, Tanting 7, R. Lim 3, Villamor 3 (FREEMAN)
