Mandaue Open Chess this weekend

CEBU, Philippines - Up and coming Cebuano pawnpushers will once again test each other's skills with the staging of the Mandaue Mayor's Cup Open Chess on May 4-5 at the J Centre Mall Activity Center along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.

Registration fee is pegged at P250 for players 18 years old and above and P200 for 17-under entries.  The deadline for registration is at 12 nn on Thursday at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

The champion in the 9-round Swiss system competition will pocket P10,000, while the second and third will receive P5,000 and P3,000, respectively. The fourth to 10th will take home P1,000 apiece, while those who will make it to the top 20 list will each get a consolation prize of P500.

The top three performers among 13-under, 18-under and female participants will receive a special prize of P500, P300 and P200.— EBV (FREEMAN)
