Davies Paints rules Don Bosco Alumni caging

CEBU, Philippines - Davies Paints rode on a spirited endgame assault to repulse the Bullvets, 62-55, in their knockout final match and clinch the championship of the Bosconian Basketball Club Alumni Cup 2013 last Sunday night at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) gym in Punta Princesa, this city.

Former varsity player Celso Colegado topscored for Davies Paints with 15 points but it was his consistent play all throughout the tournament that earned him the coveted MVP award. Gunther Seroy paced Bullvets with 14 markers.

Davies Paints trailed by four points after the first 10 minutes of play, 11-15, but retaliated with a 19-9 blitz in the second quarter to gain a six-point headway, 30-24, at halftime.

Bullvets knotted the count at 44-all after three quarters, but Davies Paints played steadier in the final stretch to breeze through a seven-point victory.

Earlier, Payang Alforque charted 21 points as DBTHS '95 trounced the DB Greywolves, 65-46, to claim the third place trophy.

The Greywolves took an early 18-15 lead, but that was their only bright moment as DBTHS '95 wrested the driver's seat at the break, 29-26, for good. DBTHS '95 further pummeled the Greywolves in the final half, 36-20, to come up with a 19-point blowout. (FREEMAN)
