CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano chess prodigy Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano tallied the highest score of 8.5 points to pocket the P5,000 champion's purse in the Rapid Summer King Open Chess Tournament over the weekend at the Deep Blue 'D Woodpusher located at the second level of SM City-Cebu.
While Sevillano perched all alone atop the leaderboard, Ronald Ganzon, NM Merben Roque and Christian Yves Fiel figured in a three-way tie with identical 7.5 points to finish at joint second to fourth place. They recieved P2,000 each.
Edcel Montoya placed fifth with 7.0 points, while NM Rogelio Enriquez, Jr., Joel Pacuribot, Arnolito Cadiz, Allan Salientes, Carlos Moreno III and Felix Shaun Balbuena rounded up the top 11 finishers with 6.5 points apiece.
Those who made it to the top 20 list were Anthony Makinano, Eden Diano, Richard Natividad, Vincent Balena, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Rommel Ganzon, Justine Flint Misa, Concordio Plando and Edwin Cablao.
Adrian Basil Basilgo and Jelou Tabanao got a special prize of P1,000 each for emerging as the top kiddie and female player in the two-day tilt sponsored by Engr. Blas Hipulan, Carlos Tan, Molet Hortelano, Atty. Mariano Tan, Engr. Ehte Dominguito and Bodjie Lim of Rose Pharmacy. (FREEMAN)
