CEBU, Philippines - The Raphael’s Sports Bar-backed Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu slammed the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers, 92-65, to snatch the 19-under title of the Cebu Elite Basketball League (CEBL) last Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Magis Eagles, who just pulled off a 55-54 squeaker over the same rivals in the elimination round, displayed superb performance from the outset to come up with a lopsided win this time.
Explosive guard Rendell Senining unloaded 10 of his 25 points in the first four minutes of play, with his three-pointer giving the Eagles a rousing 18-4 start.
UV crawled within five points, 26-31, but Arc Gabrielle Araw-Araw, Gio Laguyo and Fletcher Galvez sparked another sizzling run that gave the Eagles a 46-32 halftime lead.
Araw-Araw, a Mythical Five member as well as Rookie of the Year in the CESAFI, added 16 points while reigning CESAFI MVP Dawn Ochea added 13 markers. Laguyo finished with 11.
Andres Desiderio paced UV with 20 points.
UV though did not go home empty-handed as they were crowned champions in the 16-under class after beating the University of San Carlos, 92-48. Wingman Gerald Fernandez fueled UV's championship run with 19 points followed by Dave Cabanilla and Jun Manzo with 13 markers apiece.
Earlier, the University of San Carlos grabbed two crown in the 10-under and 13-under divisions.
