Roque rules Deep Blue Open Chess

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano NM Merben Roque outsmarted Rommel Ganzon in their knockout final match to rule the Deep Blue Open Chess Tournament over the weekend at the Deep Blue 'D Woodpusher's Chess Club situated at the second level of SM City-Cebu.

Roque went home P7,000 richer, while Ganzon pocketed P4,000 for placing second in the two-day tilt presented by Deep Blue 'D Woodpusher's Chess Club in partnership with Atty. Mariano Tan, Carlos Tan, Engr. Blas Hipulan, and Ethi Dominguito.

Losing semifinalists Bryll John Arellano and Carlos Moreno III received P1,500, while Anthony Makinano, Felix Shaun Balbona, Marc Simborio and Eden Diano got P1,000 apiece for making it to the quarterfinal round.

Completing the top 16 cast who received P500 each were Yves Fiel, Michael Joseph Pagaran, Rogelio Enriquez, Jr., Edsel Montoya, NM Leonardo Alidani, Venancio Loyola, Romulo Pialan and Richard Natividad.  (FREEMAN)
