CEBU, Philippines - A total of P22,000 in cash prize is at stake for the Deep Blue Open Chess Tournament this weekend at the Deep Blue 'D Woodpusher's Chess Club situated at the second level of SM City-Cebu.
The tournament follows a unique two-stage format. Stage 1 is a five-round Swiss system qualifying phase using the Swiss manager chess program.
The top 16 players will then advance into Stage 2, the prize money circle applying the knockout matchplay.
The champion will go home P7,000 richer, while the second placer will pocket P4,000. The losing semifinalists will receive P1,500 each and the losing quarterfinalists will get P1, 000 apiece. Those who will make it to the top 16 are assured of at least P500.
Registration fee is pegged at P200. The organizers will be accepting on-site registration but only until 10:20 am on Saturday.
Presented by Deep Blue 'D Woodpusher's Chess Club, the two-day tilt is also being supported by Atty. Mariano Tan, Carlos Tan, Engr. Blas Hipulan, and Ethi Dominguito.
