CEBU, Philippines - Yesterday's “Centennial Walk” spearheaded by Cebuano socio-civic leader and sportsman VW David “Kuya Boy” Odilao, Jr. to commemorate the 100th founding anniversary of Freemasonry in the Philippines was a huge success.

Held under the auspices of the Masonic District VII-Central Visayas headed by VW Nicomedes “Jun” Leonor, Jr., the momentous event kicked off with a simple program graced by MW Pablo C. KO, Jr. at the Senior Citizens Park of Cebu City.

“It was a total success even though we only had two weeks of preparation,” said Odilao, a Cebu Sports Hall of Famer. “We decided to do a centennial walk and not only a simple program because we also want to show that we are into healthy lifestyle.”

“There are a thousand members in Cebu alone and I am glad that the Mason officers came to take part of our Centennial Walk,” he added.

During the ceremony, Odilao paid tribute to our national heroes whose selfless and dedicated service as Masons have had largely contributed in shaping our nation's history.

Led by Marcelo H. Del Pilar who first established Freemasonry in the Philippine Archipelago, the other prominent Filipino Masons include our National hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Graciano Lopez Jaena, Bishop Gregorio Aglipay, Andres Bonifacio, Gen. Antonio Luna, President Quezon, Laurel and Roxas, Jose Abad Santos, Juan Luna, Mariano Ponce, Hadji Butu Rasul, Paulino Villaruel and Ambrocio Flores among others.

Over a hundred members and officers from five Masonic lodges from the Orient of Cebu and Bohol took part in the affair to celebrate Centennial founding anniversary of the oldest and biggest men fraternal organization in the world. The participants came from the Dagohoy Lodge of Bohol, Datu Lapu-Lapu of Mactan Island, Maktan Lodge, Mt. Moriah Lodge and Cebu Lodge.

The group then held a short, but meaningful walk to the historic Fort San Pedro in Plaza Independencia where they had breakfast and get-together. (FREEMAN)
