Don Bosco booters bag player 6 crown in Aboitiz Cup
CEBU, Philippines - The Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) booters bagged the first title of the 15th Aboitiz Cup after they ruled the players 6 division of Cebu's longest existing and best-organized football tournament yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
DBTC defeated the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 1-0, via penalty shootout in their final match.
The two protagonists showed the same level of aggressiveness and determination resulting into a scoreless draw at the end of the regulation period.
There were three kickers fielded in during the shootout, but DBTC’s Ash Ballesteros was fortunate enough to punch in the winning goal.
For his efforts, Ballesteros was honored with the Golden Boot' and the MVP awards. SHS-AdC’s Vilo Benetiz was named the best half back and Xendria Tomaz Cala the best defender.
On the other hand, Bright Academy-A pulled off a 6-1 win against Springdale-A, while VEPS nipped Springdale-B, 5-0.
In the other games, Lahug-B outsmarted Canduman, 1-0, Cebu International School grabbed a 4-2 triumph over Warshockz, while SHS-AdC silenced Lahug-A, 2-0.
In the players 10, Bright Academy posted a 4-1 win against San Roque FC, while VEPS blanked SHS-AdC-B, 2-0.
SHS-AdC, however, bounced back with its team B whipping St.John Kenty, 4-0.
In the boys 12 action, CIS pared no mercy in a 14-0 annihilation of BMALV, Bright Academy shackled Springdale, 3-0, while SHS-AdC pounded out Warshockz Fambal, 2-0.
CIS may be too much for BMALV, but it experienced the same humiliation at the hands of SHS-AdC in the girls 17 division.
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) sealed yesterday’s battle with a 1-0 win against the University of the Visayas in the under-23 category, thanks to the game-clinching goal of Albert Tejas at the 55th. (FREEMAN)
