Cop nabbed in buy-bust

CEBU, Philippines — A police officer was arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by multiple law enforcement units in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
The joint operation involved personnel from the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-7, Regional Special Project Unit-7, Police Stations 6 and 11 of the Cebu City Police Office, PDEG SOU-7, RID-7, the CDEU/CIU of the Mandaue City Police Office, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-7.
The suspect, identified by the alias "Mr. Nice," is a 33-year-old resident of Barangay San Vicente, Liloan town. He is currently assigned to the Mandaue City Police Office.
Authorities seized from the suspect two medium and two small sachets of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of over P400,000, along with other drug paraphernalia.
The arrest stemmed from intelligence reports on the officer’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.
As of press time, the Mandaue City Police Office has yet to issue a statement.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) announced yesterday the seizure of illegal drugs valued at P269.3 million during the first quarter of 2025, highlighting its firm stance on the war against drugs.
Under the leadership of PRO-7 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating the illegal drug trade in Central Visayas.
From January 1 to March 31, 2025, law enforcement operations led to the confiscation of 39,614.18 grams of shabu, estimated to be worth P269,376,424. Authorities also seized marijuana plants and dried leaves valued at P184,914.
A total of 2,481 individuals were arrested in 2,171 anti-drug operations carried out during the period. Among those apprehended were 151 high-value targets, 1,635 street-level pushers, and 695 newly identified drug personalities.
Maranan attributed the successful operations to a comprehensive peace and order strategy, emphasizing inter-agency collaboration, effective intelligence work, and active community engagement. He stressed that the campaign not only aims to dismantle drug networks but also to enhance public safety and well-being.
"The impact of this sustained crackdown sends a strong message against drug-related offenses and marks a significant step toward a safer Central Visayas," Maranan said. – / FPL (FREEMAN)
