Alegado on allegations: 'Baseless, misleading'
CEBU, Philippines — After weeks of silence, Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado answered allegations hurled against her, which she considered baseless and misleading."
Alegado said that the allegations of her political opponents and other critics that she has done nothing for the town is completely unfounded and a misrepresentation of the years of public service of the Alegados for the town.
Alegado, in a statement, said that she has dedicated herself to the betterment of Consolacion and its people. Under her leadership, she said the municipality has seen substantial growth and development across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and local economy.
Alegado cited her key programs and projects, which include expansion or construction of the New Consolacion Government Center Extension, road networks (concreting and improvement), multi-purpose buildings, slope protection projects, retaining walls, New Cebu International Container Port Project (NCICP), among others, in terms of infrastructure projects.
For healthcare, Alegado said that the municipality is holding daily medical consultations, dispensing of maintenance medicines, infectious diseases treatment, mental health consultation and treatment; hiring of additional doctors and medical staff, establishment of the Consolacion Primary Health Facility 2, among others.
As for education programs, Alegado said that her administration has implemented, among others, school buildings' construction and repairs, efficient usage of the Special Education Fund, conversion of the Consolacion Community College into Cebu Technological University - Consolacion Campus.
As for social services, the mayor said the municipality has Expanded Provision of Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations, and livelihood programs for puroks and individuals.
These programs are just some of the initiatives undertaken by Mayor Alegado, which have profoundly benefited the people of Consolacion, the mayor said.
This commitment to public service has been solidified by the awards and accolades reaped by the town under Alegado's leadership.
These recognitions include the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), the highest and most prestigious award that a local government unit could receive from the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Alegado considered this award as a major affirmation of her leadership.
Instead of promoting division, now is the time for the residents of Consolacion to unite and continue building on the positive momentum of the past years. Attempts to stir up baseless opposition only serve to weaken the progress that has already been achieved and distract from the real work ahead, added Alegado, who is seeking a reelection for this coming May 12 midterm polls.
