Capitol to use QR-coded cards to distribute aids

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Government is set to distribute incentives to 45,000 barangay volunteer workers across the province using a new system.

In lieu of cash, the Capitol will now distribute annual incentives to barangay volunteer workers using QR-coded cards.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in a post by Sugbo News, the Capitol's official media arm, said that the new QR-coded card system aims to ensure public funds are used solely for their intended purpose, marking the first time this approach is being implemented.

As reported, the cards, which bear the names and other details of the barangay volunteer workers, can be used to purchase essential items from any of the Capitol-partner merchants, such as grocery stores, and to redeem pre-approved items, such as food.

It was also made clear that the QR-coded cards will not be used to purchase non-essential items such as liquor, cigarettes, or cosmetic products.

Daycare workers, barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay health workers (BHW), and barangay animal health aides (BAHA) will receive the highest amount, with P6,500 loaded onto their QR cards.

In addition, barangay tanods will receive QR cards containing P5,500 each, while lupong tagapamayapa members and gender and development (GAD) focal persons will receive P2,500.

The report added that, through the yearly incentives, the Cebu Provincial Government ensures barangay volunteer workers have something to look forward to during the Christmas season.  (CEBU NEWS)
