CEBU, Philippines — Anticipating an influx of visitors for the “Misa de Gallo” and the upcoming Fiesta Señor at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño and the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, the Barangay Santo Niño is installing high-definition closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all of its four sitios.

Barangay Captain Lulu Ramirez said the new CCTV system is composed of 56 fiber optics cameras. The supplier, 7Core Communications, Inc., delivered the cameras the other day and are set to be installed before the “Misa de Gallo” starts on December 16.

Ramirez said the new CCTV system costs the barangay P2.3 million which was charged from the P3 million assistance from the city government. The barangay captain said the remaining P700,000 was utilized to purchase 16 pieces of  brand new handheld radio and repeater system.

Engr. Cloyd Dedicatoria, 7Core’s President and CEO, said the new CCTV cameras will be installed in four sitios, including the vicinity of Basilica Minore del Sto Nin~o and Metropolitan Cathedral.

Didicatoria said the advanced system will enable the barangay command center to capture the situation right away. Ramirez said they opted to go for a more advanced CCTVs in preparation for the Misa de Gallo and the Sinulog.

“Kung adunay mga problema sa snatching, disgrasya, tulis, mahimo ra gyud nga moari sila sa barangay hall, apan magdala lang gyud sila og police blotter,” Ramirez.

The barangay command center will be handled mainly by its fire brigade volunteers under three shifts.

“Pagbantay mo mga kawatan kay ang Sto. Nin~o is really protected, secured gyud 24/7 with the operation center that Kap Lulu (Ramirez) has built. I can really say nga ayaw gyud mo pagbinoang diri sa Brgy. Sto. Nin~o kay makit-an gyud mo,” warns Dedicatoria. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
